MISS H. CALDWELL : EARLY IDENTITY
OBITUARY
One of the district’s best known identities. Miss Hannah Caldwell, died in the Cook Hospital yesterday. She had been living in Gisborne at 262 Stout street with her sister, Miss Jean Caldwell, for the past 30 years and during that time became associated with a wide circle of acquaintances and friends. Miss Caldwell was born in Ashburton some 70 years ago ' and came to Gisborne at an early age. Later, she spent part of her childhood at the family home, Doonholm station, Tolaga Bay. During her lifetime she had the distinction of being a passenger on one of the first wheeled vehicles to make the trip from Gisborne to Tolaga Bay. A keen Presbyterian. Miss Caldwell also took a great interest in gardening, church interests and horticulture forming her recent major interests. She is survived by a wide family circle, who include her sisters. Miss J. Caldwell and Mrs. O. E. Bartram, both of Gisborne. A service will be held in Cochrane’s chap, Williams street, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, after which the funeral will leave for the Taruheru cemetery.
