STANDARD CODES FOR BUILDING BY-LAWS

(P.A.) NAPIER, Feb. 16. Standard codes for building by-laws laying down minimum requirements had been approved by the Government but had not been adopted in many municipalities, said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. W. E. Parry, in opening the municipal conference last night. The Minister said he believed that there should and would be complete unanimity of thought on this matter. He intended to call a conference between the Municipal Association and Government representatives within a week or two to formulate an acceptable procedure on which standard codes could be implemented on a uniform, national basis. The Minister could give no indication of the Government’s policy on fire-fighting, but said that the change in administration recommended by the Ballantyne fire commission and the original proposals made by the Municipal Association and other organisations were receiving the fullest consideration.
