“GHOST TOWN” RAVAGED BY STORM
BRISBANE, Feb. .11. Lashed by a 90 miles an hour wind and torrential rain, the partly inhabited “ghost town” of Cooktown is disintegrating. Ninety of its 120 buildings have been blown to pieces or unroofed. Contact with the town in its exposed position on Cape York Northern Queensland was lost yesterday morning, regained in the afternoon and lost again. Then the residents were huddled together in ■temporary accommodation in the brick bank building. Yesterday in 12 hours the town received 13£ inches of rain.
