PAREORA BRANCH CRITICISES NATIONAL COUNCIL

(P.A.) TIMARU, Feb. 11. At a meeting of members of the Pareora branch of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ Union the following motions were carried:— “(1) Hhat this meeting of Pareora members emphatically protests against both the national council's attitude in failing to make the demands for labourers consistent with the statistics issued in June, 1948, and the failure to consult the rank and file in respect to to mandate on wages and conditions (a) against the attitude of the Canterbury executive in endorsing the actions and conduct of the assessors and advocate in the freezing dispute without a mandate from the members; (b) and that we demand that the decisions of the Hunter tribunal be referred back to the members of all affiliated unions before they are ratified in the Arbitration Court. “(2) That this meeting supports the principle of one union in the freezing industry and that this question be referred to the branches through the Canterbury executive and the national council.”
