(9 a.m.) SINGAPORE, Feb. 10. Lieut.-Colonel W. A. Gutsell, manager of the Nambau estate at Seremban and two special constables were killed by terrorists today. Lieut.Colonel Gutsell was a member of the Negri-Sembilan Council of State. His car was ambushed by terrorists. A British lieutenant of the 16th Field Battery was killed and a major in the same unit seriously wounded in a clash with terrorists in the Muar area of Johore today. A Japanese was among the four terrorists killed by the security forces at Kotatinggi in Johore yesterday. A terrorist arms workshop was captured. The Incorporated Society of Malayan Rubber Planters has asked the Government for increased security measures for planters on isolated estates. This followed a resolution by the Negri-Sembilan branch exDressing the opinion that planters of all ages were leaving the industry in ever increasing numbers.
The resolution stated that the industry would shortly be faced with an acute shortage of trained Europeans and Malaya would find it difficult to maintain her present position as the foremost dollar earning country in the British Empire.
