SHAKE-UP OF A.B.C. SERVICE ADVISED

CANBERRA, Feb. 10. The Australian Broadcasting Commission’s activities must be substantially curtailed or its revenue substantially increased, according to a committee set up to inquire into the organisation of the commission. The report has been tabled in the House of Representatives. The committee states that though required to be self-supporting and to establish sinking funds <to meet the repayment of loans, the commission for some time had not met expenditure from current ordinary revenue. The committee recommends the complete overhaul of the administration, including that of the commission’s independent news service which last year cost £162.074.
