SOUTHDOWN SIRE FETCHES 62 GNS. : WAIMOANA SALE TONE DISAPPOINTS

Although a stud Southdown sire fetched 62gns. and selected pens in the initial stages gave a lift to the sale, prices realised generally were disappointing at the complete dispersal of the Southdown and Romney flocks of the Waimoana stud farm at the P.B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s ground yesterday.

The sale was conducted by Dalgety and Company. Limited, and Common, Shelton and Company, Limited, in coniunction. The sheep were sold without reserve. They were well brought out. Opofiki buyers were active in the 'Down section, with competition from Gisborne runholders. Gisborne and the surrounding distriets shared the Romnevs.

The top-priced 'Down sire. Korongata. born in 194(3 and bred by Messrs. Gimblett Brothers, was strong in Ngatarawa blood. The purchaser was Mr. C. W. J. Neilson. Onotiki, The other 'Down sire. Wai 124-42. sired by Pukenui 1.25-38 out of Wai 180-37. was bought by Mr. N. A Wilton. Knitaratahi. for 16'gns. Prices were:— SOUTH DOWNS

Wilson, Tolaga Bay. 3gns: the remainder from ljgns to Signs. Ewe Lambs.—These were sold in lots of 10 and realised values ranging from 2gns to 2Jgns. Ram Lambs.—-Sixty-eight ram iambs came forward and competition brightened for the first few pens. The range of orices was between 2gns. and 4gns. Sixteen shearling 'Down rams which were not catalogued came through the ring before a start was made with the selling of the Romneys. Quotations were between 3gns and sJgns. ROMNEYS Two-shear Ewes.—W. 3-46. Makiri station, Waimata, 9gns; Y.W. 18-46, Makiri station, lOlgns.; T. 22-46, Est. W. H. Renner, Ruakituri. 4gns: The remainder ranged from 2jgns. to 41gns. Onc-sliear Ewes.—Twenty-two came forward and the range of prices varied from 2{gns. to 3Jgns. Three-shear Ewes. —The entry was limited to eight in this category and values were from 2.Jgns. to Signs. Four-shear Ewes.—They were put up in two lots, each of six ewes, realising respectively 2gns. and 2]gns. M.A. Ewes.—There were 23 in the entry and the range of prices was from 2gns. to 3igns. Ewe Lambs.—Again these were offered in lots of 10, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to secure interest. The draft was purchased by Mr. H. B. Williams, .iun., at prices ranging from liens to 2gns. Ram Lambs.—There were 42 to be disposed of and they made from ljgns. to 43gns.
