Red Paper Challenges Plea By Mayor

(11 a.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 9. The Communist Daily Worker, in an open letter to the Mayor of New York, Mr.'W. O’Dwyer, questioning his right . to speak for all creeds and faiths in his demand that the United States Government intervene against Hungary in the case of Cardinal Mindszenty, says: “We urge our fellow citizens not to let themselves be incited to hysteria or blind passions. We urge them to refuse to permit religious faiths to be used by cynical men to spread war propaganda. We urge them to tell you Mr. Mayor that our citizens don’t approve of your ■ echoing Cardinal Spellman’s war cry.” ' The Daily Worker, in questioning Mr. O’Dwyer’s right to speak for all faiths and creeds, asks if he has ever “spoken for the rights of the Protestant churches who are hounded and tormented” in Spain.
