Mangaheia Road Accident

An employee of the Department of Internal Affairs, Mr. Leslie Angus, suffered a fracture of the right leg and painful abrasions about the head on Tuesday night when a truck which ha was driving along the Mangaheia road, in the Uawa County, left the road and overturned.

Mr. Angus, who is officer in charge of a wild life control division party investigating the life cycle and breeding habits of the opossum in the Uawa County, was approaching a corner in rear of a vehicle driven by the district resident, and a cloud of dust thrown up by the leading vehicle masked some minor obstruction which deflected the wheels of the departmental vehicle.

After the accident Mr. Angus received assistance from a party of Maoris and later was given treatment by the district nurse before being removed to the Cook Hospital. The hospital report today indicated that although his injuries were still painful he was making fair progress.
