South Island Eleven In Strong Position Against Major Side

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 24. The South Isla’nd Combined Eleven is in a strong position against the South Island Major Associations in the cricket trial at Lancaster Park. The South Island Eleven scored 331 in reply to the Major Associations' 98 and in the second innings the Major Associations scored 138 for three wickets, all bowled sby F. Cresswell. A. Cresswell was hostile throughout and looked at all times likely to take a wicket. F. Cresswell must surely have played himself into the New Zealand side. A slow medium bowler with perfect control of flight, spin and speed, he seems ideally suited to English conditions. After seeing the first two days of this match the New Zealand selectors, W. A. Hadlee and J. L. Kerr, left for Wellington to see the last two days of the North Island trial. The other selector, M. W. Wallace, who is captaining one of the North Island teams, went north on Friday. Scores: — SOUTH ISLAND ELEVEN First Innings. J. G- Leggat, run out 31 K. F. M.
