MORE PRICE CONTROL IN FRANCE
(From British United Press.) (By Airmail.) PARIS. More goods are to be subject to price control in France and there will be Government measures to curb industrial and agricultural wholesale prices. This was decided by the French Cabinet at a meeting which went on until the early hours of the morning. The Secretary of State for Economic Affairs is to be instructed to fix new prices for certain industrial products bringing these prices down to a level not higher than those existing on December 31.
Arbitrary lowering of prices below the December 31 level was decided for other products and some foodstuffs including leather, shoes, textiles, fruits, vegetables, pork, fish, condensed milk and wine. Ministers in the various fields are to take measures to bring into harmony the prices charged to consumers with the cost of production In cases where a Government order is defied it is proposed the offender be punished even to the extent of shops, offices and factories being closed down.
