TIGER MOTH CRASHES ON FLIGHT YESTERDAY: OCCUPANTS SAFE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 24. 1 A Tiger Moth aircraft, crashed on a flight from Masterton to Paraparaumu yesterday morning. The two men on board were found late last night by two members of the Tararua Tramping Club. Both airmen are safe. They will come out of the Tararuas to Bannister But, on the Holdsworth military camp site, today.

The plane is considered a total loss

A message sent while the plane was still missing said it was piloted by Mr D. Shepherd, of Featherston, with Mr. Michael Daniel, of Akura (Masterton) as a passenger. It left Hood aerodrome, Masterton, at 9.55 a.m. yesterday for Paraparaumu in company with another plane flown by Mr. Edward liamill, of Masterton. Mr. Hamill’s plane arrived at Paraparaumu at 11.35 a.m.

Mr. liamill reported at Paraparaumu that they had met with a severe downdraught north-west of Mount Hector and entered cloud. Mr. Hamill, when he came out of the cloud, failed to see any sign of the other plane and. after circling, went on to Paraparaumu.
