Arab-Jew Talks May Break Down Completely
(11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 23
Observers at Rhodes believe that the Arab-Jewish armistice negotiations may break down completely if the present deadlock over troop withdrawals in Palestine continues much longer, says 'Reuter’s correspondent on Rhodes.
Intensive “backstage” discussions guided by the acting mediator. Dr. R. Bunche, failed to shake either side from its original stand. The Egyptians, according to a United Nations’ source, continue to base their argument on the lines of the Security Council’s resolution of November 4, meaning an Israeli withdrawal from the largest part of Negev. The Israeli stand is still based on the demand for the complete evacuation of Egyptian troops from Palestine soil.
