LIQUOR IN RECIPES: OFFICIALS’ DILEMMA

(10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 23. Britain’s Ministry of Food, which helps housewives to make the best of their rations by publishing recipes in the newspapers, has offended the National United Temperance Council which has passed a resolution objecting to recipes recommending the use of alcohol, such as rum, sherry and brandy. ' Teetotallers complain that the Ministry has broken a promise given to the Women’s Temperance Organisation. Ministry officials have now to decide which is the more important—keeping friendly with non-drinkers or helping the housewife to avoid ■monotony in rationed meals.
