PARENTS FAVOUR CONSOLIDATION

Waerenga-a-hika School

A large number of parents of children attending the Waerenga-a-hika School met on Thursday night to decide whether or not the school should be closed and amalgamated with the Makauri School. After some discussion under the chairmanship of the Rev. J. G. B. Talbot, those present expressed their willingness for the consolidation of the two schools, providing that adequate transport is available for conveying Waerenga-a-hika children to Makauri.

It was also the feeling of the meeting that children from Waerenga-a-hika in Forms I and II should be conveyed to the Gisborne Intermediate School if possible.

The recommendations made at the meeting will be conveyed to the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, under whose authority the consolidation of the two schools will take place.
