Boxer Beats Fighter in Bout at Napier

(P.A.) NAPIER, Jan. 24. Boxer beat fighter when the stylish Auckland welterweight Doug Godward (10.5) decisively outpointed the Napier Boxing Association’s Australian importation Lympie Walker at Napier on Saturday night, . It was Walker’s first bout in the Dominion. He revealed himself as a hard puncher with a knowledge of most of the tricks of the game, but Godward s superior ringcraft left him few openings. Walker continually manoeuvred for a knock-out, but Godward’s footwork, strong guard and crisp straight left kept the Australian from getting too close with his vicious swings and hooks. Walker went down for a count of eight in the eighth round.
