FIRE DESTROYS POTTERY WORKS AT AUCKLAND
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 21. Fire destroyed a large part of the main block of the Amalgamated Brick and Pipe Company’s No. 4 pottery at New Lynn early this morning. The larger part of the wood and iron building was stacked to the roof with straw-packed cases of cups and saucers, jugs and plates. Five fire engines quickly cut off the fire in the brick-drying racks and storerooms from the main_ building. Hoses were still playing on the smouldering wreckage at 9 a.m. today. The stock is insured but the losses are expected to be heavy.
