INDIANS WANT CLOSER LINK WITH HOMELAND
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. The Indian community in New Zealand will hold its annual conference at' Pukekohe this week-end. Between 40 and 50 delegates from throughout tha Dominion will attend. A Wellington delegate stated today that the conference would discuss tha general welfare of Indians in New Zealand generally and, in particular, a request to the Indian Government to establish a consulate or send an Indian representative to New Zealand to ensure closer co-operation between tha two countries.
Remits, he said, would include a request to the press and public not to use the world “Hindu” to describe Indians, as the term covered a religious section of the community only.
