44 STUDENTS PASS UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAM.

Forty-four candidates from Gisborne passed the university entrance examination conducted by the University of New Zealand at the beginning of December. The passes included are gained either by accrediting or by examination under the current regulations. It is stated by the university that before announcing the results the Education Department had been conferred with and special consideration given to the results of all pupils who lost school time bn account of the poliomvelitis epidemic.

There were no passes at Tokomaru Bay.

In the diploma in fine arts preliminary examination conducted by the University of New Zealand, Beverley B. Mill, Gisborne, passed in four subjects. They were drawing from common objects, painting from still life, design in colour and instrument drawing.

The successful candidates In Gisborne were all accredited. No pupils who sat the examination in Gisborne received a pass.
