Gaddum and family arrived at Gisborne yesterday from Mohaka. Miss R. Wauchop. Stout street, is the guest of Mrs. A. W. Mossman, Patutahi. Mr. and Mrs- A. Bright, Toromiro, Whatatutu, are the week-end guests of Mrs. H. Bright, Wainui Beach. Miss A. Williams, Ngamoe. Ruatoria, who has been the guest of Mrs. G, Gaddum, Mohaka, has returned to Gisborne.

Burnett, Mr. and MrsJohn Barton, Mrs. Harold Williams, Ruatoria, Mesdames Thornley Sherratt and Harold McKenzie, Hastings. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. White, Ngatapa. for the Murphy-White wedding yesterday were Mrs. Blake Mason, Whangara, matron-of-honour, and Miss Margaret Btirland, PatutahiMiss Eileen Martin, A.N.A.T.D., and a ballroom gold medallist, is visiting Gisborne for 10 days and is staying at Almadale. She will be lecturing and demonstrating to members of the Gisborne Amateur Dancers’ Club during her stay. Mr. and Mrs- Harry Brown, Lower Hutt, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Orchiston, Hexton, returned home today. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. B. de Lautcmr and family, Wairoa. are visiting Gisborne. They are staying at the Masonic Hotel.

Mrs. Eggingfon and her small son. Peter, have returned to Whangarei after visiting her narents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cameron. Childers road. Miss N. C. Varnham left Gisborne by air yesterday for Auckland prior to returning to duty at the Waikato Hospital after spending her leave with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Varnham. Cheeseman road. Miss Pat McCarty. Hawera, is the guest of Mrs. R. L. Hill. Childers road. Mrs. Alan Steele, Pehiri, has returned home after visiting Hastings. Miss Barbara McNiven, Hawke’s Bay. and Miss Christine McFarlane, Canterbury, who have been paying a visit to the Coast, are the week-end guests of Mrs. J- O. Musgrave, Beach road. Visitors to Waikaremoana this week include Mrs. F. Middlebrook, Foster street, Mrs. R. H. T. Newlck, Salisbury road, and Miss C. Curwen, Solomon Islands.

The Minister of Agriculture and Marketing, Mr. E. L. Cullen, and Mrs. Cullen. who. with their two sons, have been spending their holidays with Mr. and Mrs. W. Boyle. Clare-Maxwell.—An engagement is announced between Hilmer Keith, only son of Mrs C. I. Clare. Richardson avenue, Gisborne, and Elizabeth Margaret, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Maxwell, “Owhena station.” Tokomaru Eay.

OUTDOOR DINNER PARTY Mrs. T. A. N. Corson, Riverside road, entertained several friends of her daughter. Miss Robin Corson, to an al fresco dinner before the Christ’s College pupils' dance last night. Mrs. Corson wore a blue sheer frock for the gathering.

MAJORITY ATTAINED Miss Mary McCool, who turned 21 this week, celebrated the event with a five till seven party held on Tuesday evening at the homo of Mrs. R. L. Hill, Childers roadShaded hydrangeas proved effective in the house, where about 25 friends gathered for drinks. Mr. F. 11. Cnrnie proposed the traditional toast, to the birthday celebrant and presented her with a key. Miss McCool, who was wearing a blue crepe frock with black sequins, suitably responded. A picture party followed, COCKTAIL PARTY Guests assembled at the cocktail hour yesterday for a “miscellaneous” party for Miss Mardrc Mclntosh, whose marriage to Mr. R. Fyson takes place next week. _ The hostesses were Mrs. K. A- Martin and Misses Mary Rhodes and Fiona Mclntosh. matron-of-honour and bridesmaids-to-be at the wedding. The party was held at Mrs, M. G. McIntosh's home in Coleman road and for it the guest of honour wore a jersey silk frock in grey and blue.

Tiger lilies and hydrangeas were predominant in the flowers arranged in the house.

BRIDE FETED Miss June White. Ngatapa. whose marriage to Mr. Philip Murphy took place yesterday. was entertained prior to her wedding day by several friends.

These included Mrs. A- W. Broadhurst, Ngatapa, whose guests, invited to an outdoor luncheon, brought a variety of coat-hangers as gifts for the future bride. Mr. and Mrs. Alex White, “Titoki,” Ngatapa, were host and hostess for a New Year’s Eve gathering, and Mrs. C. B. Burland, Patutahi. gave a “miscellaneous” party, also held out-of-doors, amongst trees which formed a leafy "ceiling” for the function. Mrs. F. C.
