WOMEN MOB STORE AT SYDNEY SALE

Sydney women recently fought for £50,000 worth of imported fashion materials, advertised by a large store to be sold at factory cost. The crowd was estimated to be the biggest ever to attend a material sale. When the doors opened at 9.5 a.m., nearly 2000 women surged through and fought their way to escalators for the first floor. Pushing ,and shoving, they grabbed hold of bolts of material and would not let go until they found a salesman. Many women went for the same piece of material, arguments followed, and the material was torn. By 9.30 the crowd had grown to more than 3000. One of the most popular lines was glazed chintz and 2400 yards was sold in six minutes. At many counters the salesmen tried to maintain control, but were overwhelmed by women. Many women stood on display counters and gave directions to their friends as to the best way to get served.
