SURF LIFE-SAVING DISPLAY PLANNED FOR WAIKANAE BEACH

A surf swimming race, surf ski rescue, four-men alarm surf life-saving contest and a surf ski relay race comprise a competition programme which should hold interest at Waikanae Beach on Sunday afternoon when a demonstration is to be conducted under the auspices of the surf section of the Gisborne swimming club. The proceedings are to commence with a parade of teams and march past at 2.15 p.m. and the formal opening is to be conducted by the club president, Mr. J. S. Wauchop. The Bodle Cup and the Adair Cup are to be contended in the four-man alarm and surf race events respectively. The Waikanae and Wainui surf clubs have each entered two teams for the Bodle Cup and each club is to be represented by a team in the Adair Cup event. Entries are numerous for the surf ski rescue and relay and with good surf conditions and spectacular display may be looked for. Mr. J. Smith had been appointed as beach marshal. Mr. J. Griffin as referee and Messrs. D. Caldwell, W. Maude, J. Beckett, I. Shaw and G. McKee as judges.
