Jap. Oysters To Grow In Australian Beds

CANBERRA, Jan. 20.

Japanese oysters will provide _ a basis for the Australian oyster canning industry, according to Mr. J. J- Dcdman, Minister in Charge of Scientific and Industrial Research. The second batch of seed oysters has been transferred from Japan to Pittwater. Tasmania. Canada and America found it extremely profitable to grow Japanese oysters under cultivation, although the stock had to be kept up by annual importations from Japan. The new oyster will not be a rival for local varieties, the demand for which cannot be satisfied. The Japanese oyster is_ larger and coarser than the Australian product The second and successful batch come? from Hiroshima.
