WATERSIDE UNION HOLDS ANNUAL PICNIC FIXTURE
Young people from the Heni Materoa Children’s Home were guests of the Gisborne Waterside Workers’ Union at the annual picnic and sports meeting, held on Wednesday at the Gisborne Showgrounds with a large attendance of union members, their families and friends.
The large number of children present were specially catered for with icecream. cordials and other attractions, and sports events included several for juveniles. Results of events were: — Flat Races. —Boys under 14 years: R. Nicholas, 1: T. Lowe. 2. Girls under 14 years: M. Slade, 1; M. Penny, 2. Married Women: Mrs F. Raggett, 1: Mrs. R. Mead, 2. Girls under 15: ,T. Harvey, 1: L. Penny, 2. Single Women: Miss M. Hills, 1; Miss R- Stevenson, 2. Boys under 16 years: ,T. Pickett. 1: J. O’Reilly, 2. Waterside Workers’ Championship: M. McMillan, 1; T. Stevens, 2. Single Men: R. Tennant, 1; T. Goodall, 2. Mixed Three-Legged Race: Mrs. Nicholas and P Colbert, 1; Mrs. E. Thomas and C. Gallagher, and Miss M. Craft and J. Raggett (tie>. 2. Married Men: G. Fitzmaurice, 1; F. Raggett, jun., 2. Mixed wheelbarrow race: Mrs. S. Slade and S. Slade, 1; Mrs. Nicholas and P. Colbert, 2. Old Men’s Race: H. McErlaln, 1; W. Burns, 2 Mixed ThreeLegged Race: Mrs. Harvey and C. Gallagher, 1: Mrs. D. Nicholas and G. Raggett, 2. Committeemen’s Race: P. Colbert, 1; I. Bradley, 2. Ladies’ nail-driving competition prizes were shared by Mesdames R. Cudd. Nicholas, J. Penny, Outen and Barber.
