BAKERS' DIFFICULTIES

Bakers in Gisborne face great difficulties this week and next in baking five days’ supply of bread on one day for use over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Arrangements were well in hand yesterday and today by Gisborne bakers for the baking of extra bread, but, as one baker said, “it is a tremendous job.” He has the job of supplying about 14,000 loaves for sale tomorrow. Commencing at 2 p.m. today, the bakehouse staff will work right through to tomorrow morning to cope with the demand. The same routine will have to be followed at the end of next week.
