Woman Fined For Obscene Language

A fine of £2 and costs was imposed on Laura McQuilkin, a single woman living in Crawford road, when she appeared before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne yesterday on a charge of using obscene language in Wainui road on November 11, She pleaded not guilty and stated in evidence that she was at Maknraka for the whole of the day in question. An elderly man, Alfred James Gillies, also gave evidence to this effect. Evidence supporting the charge was given by Mrs. A. T. Terakea, Mrs. J. Rangi and Constable G. Neal. The prosecution, which was successful, was conducted f by Senior-Sergeant G. S. Norris.
