H.B. POTATO GLUT CAUSES CONCERN
(P.A ) HASTINGS, Dec. 20. A glut of potatoes is causing Hawke's Bay growers serious concern, and the position is to be discussed at a special meeting tonight. Growers say that “panic marketing” is causing a glut in the new season’s potatoes, and that as a result, the rates are well below the ceiling price. Excellent yields have been reported in all districts, with some Hawke’s Bay crops averaging up to 12 tons to the acre. Tonight’s meeting, which has been called by the Hawke's Bay Potato Growers’ Association, will consider the revision of this province’s contracts for next season.
