Still No Developments In Hunt For Murderer: More Police Sent To Wairoa
(S.E.) WAIROA, Dec. 20. Despite the fact that the police have been busily engaged, working well into the late hours of the night, there have been no further developments concerning the death of Mr. Herbert William Brunton, aged 69, blacksmith and labourer, whose battered body was found in Wairoa on Friday morning.
The police have now been reinI forced considerably, and are | carrying out inquiries over a wide 1 area. The land surrounding the hut where the crime took place has been scoured in the hope that clothing worn by the murderer, or even a portion, would be found. The result of the search has not been disclosed. Many statements have been taken.
Those interviewed in the past two days include pakehas, Maoris and also Chinese, while parties of police have been investigating in the outlying area. The police, it is stated, are receiving the fullest co-operntion from residents, as was the case in the Smythe murders. The funeral of the victim has not yet taken place In view of the fact that the latest crime is very similar to the murder of the Smythes, it is understood that a portion of that file has been sent for.
