CONSTABLE B. J. W. SIMPSON arrived at Gisborne last night from Auckland. He will take up duties at the Gisborne police station.

DR. E. N- CALLOW, scientist on the stall of the University of Cambridge, arrived in Auckland by the liner Ceramic yesterday to study the meat industry from farm to ship.—P.A. MR. C. 11. COOPER was re-appointed as Federated Farmers’ representative on the Gisborne-East Coast Regional Council when the Gisborne provincial executive of the federation met yesterday afternoon. LIEUT. A. G. TAIT, R.N., whose home is in Timaru, arrived at Auckland in the Ceramic from England yesterday to join the staff of the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Bernard Freyberg, as naval aide. He is 27 years of age. He won the D.S.C. while a wartime submarine olhcer.

LIEUT.-COMMANDER F. ST. P. WOODHOUSE, R.N., who has been loaned to the New Zealand Navy for three years, arrived at Auckland by the Ceramic from Liverpool yesterday. He will be on the staff of the Commodore in Wellington. He was in H.M.S. Leander in the Pacific during the war when she was hit by a torpedo.

MR. F. R. BALL, at yesterday’s meeting of the P.B. Electric Power Board, was re-appointed the board's representative on the Gisborne-East Coast Regional Planning Council. Mr. A. A. Fraser was appointed deputyrepresentative. MR. A. A. FRASER, deputy chairman, presided at yesterday’s meeting of the P B Electric Power Board in the absence of Mr. F. R. Ball. Other members present were Messrs. B. J. Holdsworth, A. B. C. Steele, D. W. W. Williams, F. Tolcrton, J. E. Benson, R. E Searle, R. L. Gray and J. H. Hall.

MAJOR AND MRS. E. R. ELLIOTT, who have been in charge of Salvation Army work in the Gisborne district for some time, have received notification of their transfer to Christchurch. With that city as their headquarters, they will undertake youth work in Canterbury and Westland. They are to leave Gisborne early in January. Major and Mrs. L. Miller. Hastings, are to take charge of the Gisborne Citadel.
