16 N.Z. OFFICER CADETS CHOSEN FOR DUNTROON

WELLINGTON. Dec. 18,

The names of the successful applicants for entry as officer cadets to the Royal Military College. Duntroon, Australia. in February, 1049, were announced by the Minister of Defence. Mr. F. Jones. The Minister said that 10 vacancies at the college had been alloted to New Zealand for next year and for these 17 applications had been received. Sixteen of the applicants had attended a course at the Armv School of Instruction, Trentham. All were of an exceptionally good type and had reached the required standard of education and those who were not selected would no do"bt do well in some other profession. The selected candidates would study at the Royal Military College for fouryears and. on graduating, would be commissioned in the New Zealand regular force The successful applicants were: Anthony John Ashley Cooper, Rotorua High School: Norman D’ckie McLeod. Whangarei High School: Allen Martin Simons, Whrmgarei High SchoolGeoffrey Andrew Hitchings. Rongotai Colleee. Wellington: Richards lan Launder. New Plymouth Boys’ High School: Brian Quin. St. Patrick's College. Wellington: Frederick David Newton Collins. Nelson College: John Barrie Glasson. Christchurch Hoys’ High School: Fvan Rodger McCalman, Christchurch Bovs’ High School, Robin Guy Williams, Nelson College.
