CHALLENGERS OPEN WITH 336 RUNS IN HAWKE CUP PLAY

(P.A.) WANGANUI, Dec. 11. In the first Hawke Cup cricket match of the season which began in Wanganui yesterday the Hutt Valley opening innings closed for 336 runs, Jess than an hour before stumps. Top scorers were J. Reid 89, C. Muir G2 and Kemp 57. Bowling for Wanganui Cave took three for 80 and Beard three for 85.

At stumps Wanganui had made 23 runs without loss.
