Giant U.S. Bomber Flies 9400 Miles Non-Stop

(11 a.m.) CHICAGO, Dec. 10. The Secretary of the Air Force, Mr. AY. Stuart Symington, said today that a 8.50 bomber, refuelled in flight three times by Superfortress “tankers,” completed a 9400mile non-stop round flight to Hawaii on December 7.

The flight was made on the same day as a 8.36 made an 8000-mile flight over the same route without refuelling. Mr. Symington said the 8.50 flight was much more significant because it demonstrated the possibilities of aerial refuelling. He described the 8.50 as the Air Force’s latest, fastest and highest flying long-range bomber.
