Value of Ram Examinations

“Briefly it may be stated that it has been found that 10 per cent, of most flock rams are probably poor breeders,” states the senior veterinarian to the Gisborne Veterinary Club, Mr. R. Crawford, when speaking of the value of ram examinations. Those who have had their rams tested for two seasons were of the opinion that it was well worth while, he said. It did not mean buying extra rams for those classified as good would give as good, in many cases better, results with more ewes to tup. It was fully realised that rams rejected were not fully sterile, but that a high percentage of their services were useless, and thus ihey kept good rams away from ewes for one or more heats while settling only a few ewes themselves.
