RED SPY PROBE “RED HERRING,” SAYS TRUMAN
(10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 9. He still believes that the Congressional inquiry into Communist spy activities is a red herring, said President Truman today.
Tie told a press conference that the people had shown in the November elections that they thought so too. He denounced the House Committee on un-American Activities, which is at present investigating espionage as a dead committee seeking to obtain publicity in the newspaper headlines.
President Truman said (tie United States Attorney-General _ was doing everything necessary to find out who allegedly'stole the secret State Department documents in 1937 and 1938.
