Regent.—“ The Parndine Case.” now showing at the Regent, is an excellent drama and Alfred Hitchcock has gathered a cast of outstanding players—(ire gory Peck, Ann Todd, Charles Laughton, Charles Coburn, Ethel Barrymore, Valli and Louis Jourdan—who give almost flawless performances. Robert Hitchens’ story tells of the trial of Mrs. Paradine (Valli), charged with the poisoning of her blind husband. She is defended by brilliant counsel Tony Keane (Gregory Peck), who falls under the spell of her great beauty. Majestic.—Today’s programme is headed hy the. new. Charlie Chan adventure, “The Chinese Ring,” in which the character of Chan is portrayed by Roland Winters. The associate feature. “Song of the Sierras,” stars Jimmy Wakely and Lee “Lasses” White. 'The box plans are now open for the Young New Zealanders Club’s Christmas party next Saturday at 2 p.m. As well as films, there will be a kiddies revue presented on the stage by Maureen Kenny. King’s —“If You Knew Susie.” which begins today, is a merry comedy highlighted by scintillating tunes, .and starring Eddie Cantor and Joan Davis. Ranging from the hilarious dtllicixlties encountered by two vaudevillinns when they attempt to turn their ancestral manse into a night club, the comedy develops into subtle satire when the plot moves into the farthest reaches of Congressional complications. With a smart cast and girls, the show maintains a high level of levity.
