PROTEST AGAINST TASMAN FLYINGBOAT MONOPOLY

(P.R.) WELLINGTON. Oct. G. A protest against the Government’s retention of the monopoly of using flying-boats on the trans-Tasman service was voiced by Mr. F. W. Doidgc (Oppos., Tauranga) and Mr. M. H. Oram (Oppos., Manawatu) discussing the Air Department Estimates in the House of Representatives last night. Both members urged the granting of a license to Australian National Airways to operate to the South Island. The use of flying-boats on the Tasman service had been agreed on by the United Kingdom, Australian and New Zealand Governments, said the Minister in charge of the Air Department, Mr. F. Jones. From what he had heard the Solents on order would be quite satisfactory. There was no disagreement between the Australian and New Zealand Governments. It was hoped that the Sandringhams would carry on even when the Solents arrived next year so that it would be possible to give a very good service.
