BURMESE REBELS SUFFER 'REVERSES
(11.39 a.m.) RANGOON, Oct. 6. A Burmese Government communique announced the overthrow of Karen rebels in Marenni State on the northeast frontier, near Siam. The communique said that an “understanding” had. been reached between the Government and mutineers with the resultant restoration of normal conditions.
Burmese Government successes against Communist-led insurgents on several fronts are announced in another communique. It is claimed that Government forces reoccupicd the insurgents’ headquarters at Kayan. 30 miles north-east of Rangoon, and had retaken Tantabin. 25 miles to the north-east of Rangoon. The reoccupation of Shwebandaw, near Prome, is also reported.
