ENTERTAINMENT FOR BELLONA'S CREW
The problem of entertaining members of the crew of ILM.N.Z.S. Bellona. which arrives at Gisborne on Tuesday, October 19, is one which has been puzzling the civic authorities here for some time.
A tentative programme for the week which the cruiser will be anchored in the roadstead has been drawn up, and is to be submitted to the captain. Although the cruiser will actually be on a training cruise. 250 men will be given shore leave late each afternoon. A sports meeting, boxing and wrestling contests, a smoko and dances are included in the programme of entertainment. The ship will be open to school children on two afternoons, while it is also expected to be open for general inspection over the October 23-24 weekend. H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona left the Devonport naval base Auckland, on Monday, to spend 10 days in the Hauraki Gulf on a working-up programme. After visiting the Motuihi she will return to Auckland on October 13 and will sail again on October 18 on a spring cruise of the southern ports. The cruise itinerary will be: Gisborne, arrive October 19. depart October 26; Picton. arrive October 27 depart November 2: Nelson, arrive November 2. depart November 10; Wellington. arrive November 10, depart November 16; Lyttelton, arrive November 16. depart November 24: Akaroa, arrive November 24. depart November 30; Oamaru, arrive November 30. depart December 4: Timaru. arrive December 4, depart December 8; Napier, arrive December 9. depart December 15.
