Noted Australian And U.S. Athletes May Tour Dominion

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. G. If the arrangements set in train by the management committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association bear fruit, some world famous athletes may be seen in action on New Zealand tracks before long.

The committee last night decided to write to the Australian Amateur Athletic Union asking to be informed of the personnel of the Australian team which is to tour New Zealand in February next. It was also decided to request that the team shouid, if possible, include: J. F. Treloar (New South Wales), 100yds. and 220yds.;; J. Bartram- (Victoria), 100yds., 220yds., and 440yds.; M. Carotta (New South Wales), 100yds., 220yds., and 440yds.; J. Ramsay (Victoria), 440yds. and 880yds.! R. Weenberg (Victoria), 120yds. hurdles; G. Avery New South Wales), broad jump arid hop, step and jump; J. A. Winter (West Australia), nigh jump and J. Marks (Victoria), one mile. The Nelson Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club wrote asking to be included in the itinerary of the Australian team’s tour. It was decided to reply that it appeared at present the only appearance of the Australian team in Wellington province would be at Wellington, but that the application would be further considered when the itinerary of the Australian team was being arranged. The Auckland centre suggested that every effort be made to include at least one woman athlete in the Australian team. It was decided to ask the Australian A.A.U., if possible, to include a woman athlete in the teamThe Australian A.A.U. is also to be asked, if possible, to arrange for Harrison Dillard (U.S. A.) Olympic 100 metres champion, Arthur Wint (Jamaica), Olympic 400 metres champion, who are to compete at the Australian amateur championships in January to tour New Zealand next year. It was decided to write to Dr. A. E. Porritt. London, asking him to ascertain the possibility of Mrs. Fanny Blankers-Koen, winner of four Olympic track titles, visiting New Zealand.
