BIG POLICE SEARCH FOR TWO ESCAPED PRISONERS

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 4. The search for the two prisoners who escaped from the Auckland prison quarry on Thursday afternoon developed yesterday into the greatest manhurat In the area since before the war. Police action followed the disappearance of a 22ft. launch from Hobson Bay and its location near the mouth of the Wade River, south of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, after an air search yesterday morning. It contained a prison shirt and food believed to have been taken in a raid on the cabaret at Milford late on Saturday night. A party of 21 men—uniformed police, detectives and warders from the Auckland Prison —conducted the search for two men —James Daniel Pease, aged 28, and Seaton Young, aged 23—over a wide area of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. The search was still in progress at a late hour last night. The launch was missing from its moorings in Hobsor. Bay or, Saturday evening. Inquiries showed that it had been seen off Milford about 4.30 p.m. The owner hired an Auckland Aero Club aircraft to make a search. After searching the Tamaki area yesterday morning the aircraft was turned north up the east coast bays. Finally the launch-was seen aground at the mouth of the Wade River. The police search followed.
