LACK OF HOUSING FOR TEACHERS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. Some schools are unable to obtain the best applicants for vacancies on the staffs because of lack of suitable living accommodation. To overcome this problem, the New Zealand Education Boards’ Association decided at its conference to ask the Minister of Education to make provision for the cost of granting applications from boards for the erection or purchase of suitable houses for head teachers and firstassistant masters in primary schools in both town and country areas. The association also decided to seek an increased grant for fuel for heating schools in colder areas.
