Briton Accused Of Part In Plot To Kill President Peron

(10 a.m.) BUENOS AIRES. Sept. 30. A British-born citizen, Geoffrey Brooke Taylor, aged 52, was arrested yesterday in connection with the plot to assassinate President Peron and hi» wife. ‘ „ . The political security department of the federal police said it had found a case of arms including 11 new carbines and 1000 rounds of ammunition, in Taylor’s office at the British-owned wine company of which he is manager. A friend of Taylor’s told the press that many firms in Buenos Aires keep arms on their premises as protection against possible violence. The alleged plot against President Peron was first disclosed on September 24 when the police said the assassination of the Perons was set for October 10 and declared that Mr. John Griffiths, a former United States Embassy officer, now living in Montevideo, was th© ringleader. The Senate began a debate on the bill, which already has been passed by the House, amending the penal code to stiffen the penalties for offences against President Peron and leading Government officials. The bill provides that even when criticism of public officials is based on facts that truth affords no defence for the critics.
