70,000 More Men Needed For Greek Army

(11 a.m.) ATHENS, Sept. 30. The Greek Government need 3 to call up another 70,000 men to fight its war against General Markos’ guerrillas. The Prime Minister, M. Sofoulls, has submitted a memorandum to the American Ambassador explaining the need for a stronger Army to crush the rebellion and seal the Northern borders. The Greek Army at present is about 180.000 strong. Workers in Athens, Piraeus, Patras and Volos struck for higher pay at mid light in answer to the General Con ederation of Labour's call for a 24-hour strike.
