Tales told by the most imaginative fisherman about "the one that got away” are dwarfed into insignificance by some statistics of the multitude that did not get away. The combined efforts of all the fishermen in New Zealand, angling in the lakes and streams that are the habitat of the trout, have resulted in the taking of a heavy “bag” through the years. In fact, in the last 40 years it is estimated that 20,000,000 trout, weighing in all more than 20,000 tons, have been safely landed. The figures are calculated from details given in a Marine Department bulletin prepared bv the senior fresh-water fishery officer, Mr. D. F. Hobbs. Pirates Lead Dunedin Rugby Clubs.
