Salvation Army Executives To Visit Gisborne
Commissioner R. Astbury, leader of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will visit Gisborne at the week-end in company with Colonel and Mrs. G. Marshall in connection with the annual altar service inaugurating the annual self-denial appeal to which, in the past, Gisborne district people have made handsome contributions. The commissioner needs no introduction to the people of the district, as he has made several previous visits. Colonel Marshall will be making his initial call upon the Gisborne corps, however, and his personality is likely
to make a strong impression. He was only recently appointed chief secretary for the Dominion.
Both Colonel and Pdrs. Marshall are from the United States, where the family name is a household word in Salvation Army circles. The colonel’s father and brothers are all Salvation Army officers, and have achieved signal success in administrative duties. Colonel Marshall has, since his appointment to the chief secretaryship in New Zealand, inspired confidence both by his ability in the business affairs of tlie army and by his undoubted ability on the platform. Gisborne members of the Salvation Army have expressed especial gratification regarding the prospect of the Dominion leaders’ visit on the eve of the annual appeal. ,
