DESPERATE FINISH IN FLAXMERE HACK

(Herald Special Service.) There was a desperate finish in the Hastings Flaxmere Hack Handicap run over six furlongs. Bolivar and Olympia went across the line practically abreast and Olympia gained a very narrow award. Olympia was running about sixth for most of the three quarters of a mile but over the last half lurlong came with a solid run and challenged the favourite Bolivar when the latter appeared to have the race in safe keeping. Bolivar was one of the first out and was quickly on the rails and in front. Olympia is a three-year-old by the Solario horse, Felous from Good Conduct, a member of a family that has thrown many winners, the best of which were Civility, Siaosi and Civil Form. This three-year-old is one of Mr. Ted Langley's team trained at Pnkowhai, Hastings, by Keith Cooper, once of Wairoa. The Gisborne mare Dainty Mali, ran much better than she did on her last visit to Hawke’s Bay arid was only half a length away from the winning two. Island Queen was never far away. She, like the third place-getter, is owned in Gisborne Golden Arrow never hit the front but was close up fifth. ' Salut D'Amour the topweight was the last to finish while the Wairoa trained Toiroa was always well back.
