FORMER N.Z. SURVEYOR DIES IN ENGLAND

LONDON, Aug. 31. The death is announced of Mr. John Baird Thompson, aged 80, at New Milton, Hampshire. The late Mr. Thompson entered the Lands and Survey Department in New Zealand as assistant surveyor in 1890. He became land drainage engineer in 1910 and chief drainage engineer in 1920. Two years later He was appointed under-secretary for lands and permanent head of the Lands and Survey Department. He retired in 1931.
