SHAME EXPRESSED AT CHURCH DISAGREEMENTS

(11 a.m.) AMSTERDAM. Sept. 1. Delegates to the World Council of Churches expressed shame at the disagreements among churches and the domination of home church divisions by "ecclesiastical officialdom.” The council was discussing a report of a study group on a universal church. Delegates criticised the report’s suggestion that the deepest difference was between Roman Catholics and Protestants. The Bishop of London, Dr. J. W. S. Wand, said the report falsely represented and unduly stressed the antithesis between Roman Catholics and Protestants. He added that Anglicans had found a way of reconciling the two view '■■oints. The report was referred back to the study group for simplification to enable laymen to understand it.
