TROPHIES PRESENTED TO RUGBY CHAMPIONS OF WAIKOHU AREA

The president of the P.B, Union, Mr. G. J. Jeune, and Mr. W. Picken, chairman of the Waikohu sub-union, were among the guests at the annual end-of-season dinner of the Puha Football Club on Saturday evening when the club received congratulations on winning the senior championship of the sub-union and also on the convincing display given by the A team in whittle seven-aside contest during the afternoon. The president of the Puha Club, Mr. A. H. W. Thompson, acted as toastmaster and a number of toasts were honoured in the customary manner. Mr. Picken congratulated the Puha players on winning the senior championship and formally handed over the Soldiers' Memorial Shield and the Hunter Cup to Mr. E. Newton, the captain of the team. On bcnalf of the sub-union Mr. Picken also congratulated Mr. Boysic Brown on his selection as a Poverty Bay rep. Mr. Thompson added the club congratulations and Mr. Brown received presentations from both the sub-union and the club. Mr. Brown suitably replied. Mr. Thompson also made presentations to Mesdames G. Brown, West Williams, J. Graham. S. Hollis and Miss N. Baylev in appreciation of their work in caring for the club jerseys during the season The popular treasurer and gatekeeper, Mr. N. Tu, was the recipient of a fountain pen from the club. Keen appreciation of the hospitality received was expressed and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brown and others co-operat-ing in the administrative work wore commended highly on the success ot their efforts. The annual ball was held in the Puha Hall, which was gaily decorated for the occasion Under the control of the club's social committee a large attendance enjoyed dancing to • tusic supolied o.v Dolman's Orchestra. Messrs. ,1 Holdsworth and 11. Bridge were efficient M C.'s.
