DUTCH HONOUR AGED QUEEN’S JUBILEE

(11 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, Sept. 1, Twenty thousand people, including 3000 children, gathered in the Palace Square this morning and sang praises to Queen Wiilielmina in special compositions in celebration of her sixty-eighth birthday and golden jubilee. A 33-gun salute opened the day's festivities. Queen Wilhelmina came on the. Palace balcony with the whole Royal family, while the crowd roared a welcome. The conductor of five bands and a massed choir was Air. Fred J. Roeske, aged SO. who also conducted at Queen Wilhelmina’s coronation 50 years ago. Tens of thousands of people crowded the, beflagged streets when Queen Wilhelmina drove to the Olympic Stadium where she addressed the nation. The queen paid tribute to the wartime resistance in Holland and Indonesia and expressed confidence that the nation "would have the strength to realise the dreams of the future cherished in the war years.” Referring to the accession of Princess Juliana, Queen Wilhelmina declared: “She is assuming a task in difficult complicated times, times which demand strong people.” Gay crowds took charge in the streets of Amsterdam at night. Messages of congratulations from the heads of nearly every country in the world poured into Amsterdam.
